As promised, below are the attendances for Coventry Rugby's home games from 2004 onwards, that being the year that the club moved to the Butts Park Arena from it's old Coundon Road ground.
Apologies for the absence of data for 2020/21 - Statbunker, from where the rest of the attendances are taken, has incomplete data for this season.
Presuming these figures to be accurate, and they certainly appear to be, there is no evidence to suggest that Cov's attendances declined on the arrival of Wasps at The Ricoh in time for the start of the 2014/15 season.
Quite the reverse in fact - attendances increased that year as you'd expect given Cov's form that season when they finished 3rd behind Ealing and Rosslyn Park with Rundle, Knox and Lespierre running in the tries and Matt Jones and Cliff Hodgson both metronomic with the boot.
There was then a dip in the final two seasons of the Maynard era before they started to increase again on the arrival of Rowland Winter in May 2016 and the success he brought to the club.
What seems clear to me is that the driving force behind Cov's attendances season-on-season is nothing more complicated than form. As results improve, supporters flow through the turnstiles in greater numbers, with or without a Premiership side on your doorstep.
